The Sauvie Island Moon Rocket Factory is a labor of love that spans
thousands of rainy days in various skunk works.

The full-length offerings, Super 8 Soundtrack, Mudpuddle Park,
Wy'east Can't Sleep
and Stolen: Honda Dream
are available from our friend in Italy, Alessandro Crestani,
and his celebrated independent cassette label, Best Kept Secret.
All five of our albums, including The Blind Slough to Fort Rock
are available as downloads at our little cabin in Bandcamp.
Our first three collections were initially released in limited editions
by Below the Radar on tape, and later in tiny quantities by Red 76.
More tracks can be found on various compilations from Quixodelic,
Love Harder, Best Kept Secret, A Bouncing Space other indies.

The Factory began as a recording project in the spring of 1992.
The seed was planted in a Porta Two at Club Flood, a small, but busy
project studio at the home of songwriter, Justin Stark.
Many tunes were recorded in spaces around town over the next half decade,
but the tapes were only circulated to friends and acquaintances.
Performances were also limited to small gatherings in coffee shops,
backyards and living rooms around the Northwest.
By the turn of the century, a pickup band was formed to play around town
and tiny bundles of audio postcards were shared around the world.

The team is led by veteran singer-songwriter David Klopfenstein.
His wee hours are often filled with quiet melodies, journal scribbles,
history books, stacks of tape, coffee, cigarettes and orphaned equipment.
Dave was a founding member of the Fierce Bad Rabbits,
Nimitz Freeway, (x)form and many enclaves lost to time.
Mister K has also performed live with other projects including,
the SETI Ensemble, the Persimmons and the Hellpets.

In 1996, Dave & Lincoln McGrath set up a 4-track in an old flour mill.
They have worked together performing and recording ever since.
Linc was a founding member of quite a few ensembles, including
the Prowlers, the Lemmings, Spazmo and Cleo & the Crocodiles.
He has added his talents to Metropolitan Farms, Lisa & Her Kin, the New Iberians, Racing Wheel,
The Lodge Club, Honus Huffines, Trailer Park Honeys, Billy Kennedy and many others.

Both fellows have musical histories that date back to the 80s.
Their paths even crossed a few times before they finally teamed up.
In no time at all, the Factory was no longer a solitary effort.
In fact, it has drawn quite a crowd of talent over the years.
The recordings reflect the enthusiasm and dedication of a few core people,
blended with good natured impromptu and unselfconscious outbursts from many friends.

Nathan Ruckman (Pangs, Racing Wheel & Honus Huffines),
Andy Giegerich (Major Healeys, Persimmons & Honus Huffines),
Jeffrey Helwig (Davis Redford Triad, SETI & The Inquisition),
Joshua Mayer (Metropolitan, Giant Bug Village & Honus Huffines),
Robert Lee (New Iberians & Too Loose Cajun Band),
Alex Dickey (Metropolitan, Racing Wheel & Lodge Club),
Keith Johnson (OB Addy, Trailer Park Honeys & Rhythm Stampede),
Tim Klopfenstein (Spiralling Infinites, Nimitz Freeway & Bonobo Love),
Heidi Junkersfeld (Open Field Artists & Dark Porch Productions),
Margery Fairchild (No Nude Men & Dark Porch Productions),
Josh Hanson (Hockenkeit, SETI & Rectangles),
Ann Ellenbecker (Racing Wheel) and Brad Schaffner (Bonobo Love)
are among many who have dedicated a bit of time and talent to the mission.
Performances and recordings feature these and other friends we may have forgotten to list,
but rest assured, you are all adored.

Our fifth album, The Blind Slough to Fort Rock is available now.
It was recorded on a Portastudio borrowed from closet saint,
and veteran of basement rock and roll, Ross Beach.
Thanks to our friend and talented ingenue, Linda Michelet, it was mixed
at Insta-Fame with Ben Lund (Scuffle & Dustcough).
We sincerely hope you enjoy it.

The band has been working on new ideas with a dear friend
and top engineer, Jacob Hall (Built to Spill, Richmond Fontaine & many others).
The past few years have also been spent assembling another humble studio,
writing a pile of material and digging through a growing heap of books.
We remain dedicated to provoking days of spontaneous collaboration,
or nights of lonesome introspection, and capturing those moments on tape.

We have shared live bills with a wide variety of gifted people too.
Red Pony Clock, Ross & the Hellpets and Richmond Fontaine,
Rachael Parenta, Minmae, James Low and Fernando Viciconte,
Metropolitan Farms, The Snow Fairies and Andrew Kaffer of Kissing Book,
Famous Mysterious Actors Players, Jim Basnight and John Fahey,
Pete Bruha, Celesteville, Minor Thirds and Honus Huffines
make just a small rounded handful of our personal favorites.
It might not be a list of household names to most folks,
but if you are reading this missive, you are probably not most folks.

Thanks to many volunteers, and even a dear cousin or two,
antennas have gently tossed our little songs from Portland
through the air from the Radio Marabu shortwave collective in Germany
to community and college stations tucked in snowy mountains,
green valleys and along the rocky shores of the Pacific
including regional favorites like KPSU, KAOS and KKUP.
We performed live in the studio on KBOO too.

On the tube, the band was featured in the documentary,
Palahniuk & Portland produced in 2003 for the VPRO
public television network in the Netherlands.
Our music was featured in several episodes of the long running
Chuck Cirino series, Weird TV and his new one, Weird America.
We have also appeared regularly as extras on the evening news
dropping off our ballots at the Multnomah County Elections Office.
